Play with me

I remember playing catch with my Dad. It wasn’t completive or even a teachable moment it was just plain relational. It was time. It was us. It was just him and me. As a 54 year old man I wish for one more catch.

I read this morning about our Father who art in heaven. In Hugh Poland’s devotions for baseball fans, “Steal away” he suggests we read 1 Corinthians 13 and replace the word “love” with “my Father”. I thought the word love changes the world but the value of words is purchased in who is saying them.

There was an auction a few years back and crazy dollars were spent on ordinary things like a rod & reel, a bath robe, and old fashion shaving mug. It turns out these items use to belong to Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb and the value wasn’t in the item it was in who they belonged to.

My Bible tells me about a crazy price that was paid too. “God so love the World (me & you) that He gave his one and only Son” …… to be with you and me.   (Italic are my understanding)

This morning while God and I were playing catch in the backyard I was reminded of my value to Him and reassured of whom I belong.

Get your glove – Love Pastor John

“My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit – not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength – that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all Christians the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights!

Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.” (The Message)
